Finding an attorney willing to work pro bono?

I am being wrongfully sued an cannot afford to hire an attorney. This man thinks I stole something from him while I was cleaning his house and I did not steal it, the police have already closed the investigation against me and have said they did not think I stole it. Well he is now trying to sue me I was served the papers 2 days ago.
Does anyone know how I can find an attorney willing to work pro bono?
thanks!

You have the right to consult an attorney before speaking to the police and to have an attorney present during questioning now or in the future. Do you understand?
If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. Do you understand?
There are few progams designed to assist defendants in civil cases. You can try legal aid. Look in your local phone book. If you have liability insurance or a bond, your insurer might asssume your defense. Otherwise, you can defend yourself or hire an attorney
If he is filing in small claims court you do not need a lawyer. Make sure that when you go to court you have a copy of the police report that says you did not do it. Also an a statement from the police officer that determined you did not do it. Maybe he will come to court to testify on your behalf. If not have him write a few lines explaining his position. Have it notarized. You know it will be up to the man who is filing to prove to the judge that you did do it! Hold your head up. You will be fine.
Search "Legal Aid" or "Legal Services" for your city, and you should find people who can assist you. Unless you have a family member or very good friend who is an attorney, most attorneys won't work pro bono. The plaintiff will have to prove his allegations, and if what you state is true, he doesn't have a case. Ask the legal advocate about filing a counter-suit demanding reimbursement for court costs, fees, and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
Call your county Bar association, explain your problem and see if they can help you.
Give them a chance. make that call tomorrow morning..
